Steve Pereira is a
forensic expert of fenestration
(windows and doors) with a complete range of experience
including engineering,
manufacturing and independent
product certification and
inspection agency management.
Starting in the 1970's his
manufacturing and engineering
background and responsibilities
included component and
product design, fabrication and
assembly drawings, installation
guidelines, and quality control
procedures.
Additionally, Mr. Pereira
performed window and door tests for
air, water and structural
performance ratings per industry
test methods and standards.
In 1993 Mr. Pereira became the
Director of Technical and
Certification Services for the
California Association of Window
Manufacturers. CAWM was a
fenestration trade association that
sponsored window
manufacturer's certification
programs per the American
Architectural Manufacturers
Association (AAMA) specifications
used commonly used to certify
products for performance,
as well as the National Fenestration
Rating Council (NFRC) thermal energy
ratings program. Duties
included analyzing independent
laboratory test results for
compliance to program requirements, authorizing and
issuing the certification for the
tested products, and traveling throughout North America
to perform unannounced in-house compliance inspections of certification participants’ manufacturing and assembly processes
to confirm continuing compliance and
authorization for certification of
products. Inspections included
products certified to performance
standards (air, water, structural
and forced entry resistance), Sealed
Insulating Glass (SIG), NFRC Energy
Rated Products, and in-house quality
control systems.
As CAWM Director of
Technical Services, Steve gained extensive
experience in the areas of window
certification requirements, has
co-authored industry recognized
installation standards and has also chaired Installation Symposiums for Builders, authored fenestration articles for industry journals, developed and presented Window Installation Programs at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) and for California Building Officials (CALBO).
Steve Pereira is a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and has been active on the Installation Guidelines Committee. He is also a member of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and
is an Accredited Instructor in the
AAMA InstallationMasters Trainer's Program. Mr. Pereira’s past affiliations have included membership in the Construction Industry Legislative Council (CILC)
and (NFRC) where he was a member of the Technical Interpretation Committee (TIPC)
and sat on the Building Codes and
Utilities Programs Committees.
He is also a member of the
Fenestration Expert Witness
Association (FEWA), Orange Country
chapter.
